The Almas, meaning soul, are a high energy female-fronted hard rock band based in Kenosha, WI. The five piece band consists of drums (Isaiah Bartz), bass guitar (Frost Tayla), guitars (Frank Slifka and Josh Sukowski), and female vocals (Maria Villec). Influenced heavily by modern rock, punk rock, blues rock and classic rock, they take from each members’ eclectic tastes to create a sonic fusion that is their own. As the Almas, they strive to create a powerful and purposeful sound that will excite and inspire what they like to call “the new soul of rock n roll”!
Within their first year, they have already performed a plethora of shows in the local Chicago, Kenosha and Milwaukee area and at the Aniccoustics Festival in Ohio. After opening for national act Wayland, they were approached by promoter Tom Hooks who soon after signed the band to R.I.N.D Records. Within their first six months of being signed, The Almas released a self-titled EP, and are soon to release a second EP by the end of 2017. The band plans to release a full-lenth original album in 2018. Constantly writing new originals and making new connections, the band is hard at work and ready to work harder.
The basis of The Almas' vision is that music has the power to heal us, mind body and especially soul. By fusing the energizing genre of rock with passionate and purposeful lyrics, they compose music that is distinctively driven. Their goal while writing each song is to better understand themselves while healing and reaching out to their audience. The individual instruments, the band as a collective, and the relationship between performers and audience-members come together in harmony through the soul in their music. This is what makes them the Almas, or the souls of rock.
