Silver Wrapper Presents: DOROTHY * MARINA CITY

01/06/2018 Doors 8:00 PM    Show 9:00 PM 17 & Over

DOROTHY is an LA-based band consisting of vocalist Dorothy, guitarists Nick Maybury & Leroy Wulfmeier, bassist Eliot Lorango, and drummer Jason Ganberg. The traditional bluesy rock vibes that come from the band’s high-energy performances makes them a force to be reckoned with on the music scene and a Band to Watch. Rolling Stone deemed them a “new artist you need to know” and compared their stomping, hard-rock sound to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin and Black Sabbath.

Bolstered by a dedicated fanbase of Lost Ones and an impressive roster of accomplishments for a band of their size, Marina City are teetering on the precipice of being the next big breakout. Some may claim that their infectiously dark, commanding choruses evoke theatrics with a shot of hard rock, but the reality is that their music is incomparable. It is this distinctiveness that has earned the six-piece praise from the likes of MTV News, Alternative Press, Rock Sound, the title of 2016 Band Of The Year by the Chicago Nightlife Awards, and most recently, a sold-out EP release show at The Wire.

After beating out nearly 10,000 bands to win the Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands at the latter end of 2015, Marina City were thrown into working with legendary producer John Feldmann (Blink-182, Panic! At The Disco, 5 Seconds Of Summer)—and then went on to work with Craig Owens (Chiodos, BadxChannels) for their 2016 EP, Lost =/= Alone. The grand prize also gave them the opportunity to spend two weeks on Vans Warped Tour. Their newest effort, an enduring EP called Terminal (released Aug 11, 2017), is a trust fall into a new era of the band. After a harrowing year spent pouring their souls into songs they just weren’t happy with, all while spending sleepless nights touring across the country, Marina City finally found themselves and put every inch of it into an EP that finally defines them as a band in their most genuine form.

Terminal’s first single, “Dreamers Never Die,” is a triumphant rallying cry for the band’s next generation. Ryan Argast’s soaring, confident vocals swell in the chorus with the trademark three-part-harmony accompaniment from the voices of Brian Johnson and Matthew Gaudiano, who also impress on guitar and keys respectively. Drummer Eric Somers-Urrea and bassist Aaron Heiy anchor every track on Terminal with the power and assurance of a marching band, while Todor Birindijiev’s lead guitar riffs sail melodically over the strong, steady songs throughout the EP. Terminal is a great leap forward for Marina City, who are weaving the glowing synths of top 40 pop into a post-hardcore foundation more confidently than ever, and the band’s Lost Ones will be hanging on Marina City’s every note during their shows in support of Terminal.
